My
main focus is to get one broke with suppleness in the face,
ribs, shoulders and hind end. A barrel horse is an athlete
that must sprint straight lines and collect their body to prepare
for the turns with total control. This is accomplished first
through the proper ground work.
When that
is completed you must ride with determination and confidence
in knowing that you are the leader in control of the animal.
He will be willing to respond to you by asking first and then
waiting for the response. So many times people don't give
their horse a chance to respond to what is being asked of
them.
Once they
respond correctly, we must reward them with a release of the
pressure. I like my horses to break at the poll, pick up their
inside shoulder and track forward at the same time. This move
allows my horse to prepare for the turn and still have speed
and momentum for flawless turns.
The results
will equal fast times and a consistent winner.
